Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a Mini Ratna company under Coal India Limited, has released a major recruitment drive for 444 statutory supervisory positions in the year 2026. The vacancies are divided between two critical underground‑mine roles: Mining Sirdar and Assistant Foreman (Electrical) / Electrical Supervisor. This is a golden opportunity for candidates holding mining or electrical qualifications to secure a stable PSU government job with robust pay and extensive allowances under the National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA‑XI).
Organization: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL)
Posts: Mining Sirdar (220) – Assistant Foreman / Electrical Supervisor (224)
Total Vacancies: 444
Pay Scale: Basic Pay ₹47,330 per month (NCWA‑XI) plus allowances
Job Locations: Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh (WCL mines)
Application Period: 20 July 2026 – 10 August 2026 (online only)
Selection Process: Computer Based Test (CBT) → Document Verification → Medical Examination
Both posts are in the T&S Grade‑C cadre and demand specific technical qualifications and statutory certificates issued by the Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS). Failure to hold these certificates will result in disqualification, irrespective of educational credentials.
Candidates must satisfy **any one** of the following routes:
Route 1:
Valid Mining Sirdar Certificate of Competency (DGMS)

Valid First‑Aid Certificate
Minimum 3 years of underground‑mine working experience

Both the Mining Sirdar and Assistant Foreman positions carry an identical remuneration package under the National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA‑XI). The basic pay is set at ₹47,330 per month, which is significantly higher than many non‑PSU supervisory roles in the coal sector.

The selection is purely merit‑based and consists of three stages. There is no interview component, so performance in the written test becomes decisive.
Section | Number of Questions | Maximum Marks | Time Allotted |
|---|---|---|---|
General Aptitude | 20 | 20 | 90 minutes total |
Technical (post‑specific) | 80 | 80 | 90 minutes total |
Total | 100 | 100 | 90 minutes |
The CBT is bilingual – questions appear in both English and Hindi.
There is **no negative marking** for wrong answers.
Qualifying Marks (out of 100) differ by category:
UR / EWS – 50
OBC (NCL) – 45
SC / ST – 40
Only candidates who score above the category‑specific cut‑off and fall within the merit zone (three times the vacancies per category) will be called for document verification. Typically, this stage is conducted at the WCL headquarters or designated regional centres.
Candidates must present original and one set of photocopies of educational qualifications.
Statutory certificates issued by DGMS (Mining Sirdar Certificate, Overman Competency, Gas Testing, First‑Aid, Electrical Supervisory) are mandatory.
Proof of age (Matriculation certificate or equivalent) and address proof are also required.
Reservoir candidates must carry caste certificates (for SC/ST/OBC) and other relevant reservation documents.
Final appointment is subject to medical fitness. The examination covers vision, hearing, cardiovascular health, and specific physical standards required for underground mining work. Any medical condition that could compromise safety may lead to rejection.
