The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), through its Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), has released a massive centralised notification for 6,777 Act Apprentice training slots under the Apprentices Act, 1961. This is one of the biggest openings for government jobs for ITI holders in the North‑East region this year and offers a unique chance to earn while you learn.
If you have passed the 10th class and hold an ITI trade certificate, you can join the Indian Railways and get hands‑on training in real railway workshops spread across Assam, West Bengal and Bihar.
The online application window opens on 20 July 2026 and closes on 19 August 2026, giving candidates ample time to prepare and submit a perfect application.
A total of 6,777 training slots are available across eight railway units and workshops in the NFR jurisdiction. Candidates can select their preferred unit while filling the online form. The vacancies are distributed as follows.
Railway Unit / Workshop | No. of Slots |
|---|---|
Katihar (KIR) & Tindharia Workshop | 1,103 |
Alipurduar (APDJ) | 651 |
Rangiya (RNY) | 750 |
Lumding (LMG) | 1,274 |
Tinsukia (TSK) | 860 |
New Bongaigaon & Engineering Workshop | 881 |
Dibrugarh Workshop (DBWS) | 763 |
Headquarter (HQ) / Maligaon | 495 |
Total | 6,777 |
The number of slots is provisional and may increase or decrease depending on the administration’s actual needs at the time of selection.
Before applying, ensure you meet the educational and age requirements. The correct trade matching your ITI certificate is essential for a successful application.
For most trades: Passed Matriculation (Class 10) or its equivalent under the 10+2 system with a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks from a recognised board, plus a National Trade Certificate (NTC) or Provisional ITI certificate issued by NCVT or SCVT in the notified trade.
The 50 % matriculation marks rule does not apply to candidates belonging to SC, ST or PwBD categories.
For Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) and Medical Laboratory Technician (Radiology), the eligibility is different: 12th pass (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and a minimum of 50 % marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
Age is calculated as on the closing date of the application – 19 August 2026.
Minimum Age: 15 years
Maximum Age: 24 years
Age relaxations are granted to reserved categories as follows:
OBC: +3 years
SC / ST: +5 years
PwBD: +10 years
Ex‑Servicemen: +10 years **plus** the service period
There is no written examination and no interview for this recruitment. Selection is purely based on merit and document verification.
The merit list is prepared unit‑wise, trade‑wise and community‑wise.
For general trades, merit is the average of the percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation and the ITI marks in the applied trade.
For Laboratory Technician (Pathology & Radiology) the merit is calculated on the basis of Matriculation marks plus 12th‑standard Science marks (Physics, Chemistry & Biology).
If two candidates have identical marks, the older candidate is ranked higher.
Shortlisted candidates, equal to 1.5 times the notified slots, are called for Document Verification.
Candidates must bring all original certificates and a medical fitness certificate.
Act Apprentices are paid a monthly stipend as per the rates fixed under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
First year: ₹9,600 per month (minimum stipend for NTC/STC holders, effective 11 September 2025)
Second year (where one year exemption is admissible): ₹10,560 per month
Third year (where two years exemption is admissible): ₹11,040 per month
During the apprenticeship training, you will receive a stipend that starts at ₹9,600 and can go up to ₹11,040 in higher training years – providing real income while you acquire a valuable railway trade. Note: No hostel accommodation is provided; candidates must arrange their own stay.
