The Railway Recruitment Cell, Central Railway (RRC CR) has released an open advertisement for 59 vacancies across Group C (Pay Level 5/4 and Level 3/2) and Level 1 (erstwhile Group D) posts. Candidates must satisfy educational, age, and sports norms to be considered eligible. All three components are examined during document verification and the sports trial.
Pay Level 5 / 4 (Group C): Minimum graduation in any faculty from a recognised university. Candidates possessing higher qualifications must produce their degree certificates at verification.
Pay Level 3 / 2 (Group C): 12th pass (+2) from a recognised board OR Matriculation plus Act Apprenticeship OR Matriculation plus ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT.
Pay Level 1 (Group D): 10th pass from a recognised board OR ITI, OR equivalent qualification, OR National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT. Even 10th pass candidates with strong sports records can apply here.
Applicants must be between 18 years and 25 years as on 01 January 2027. In plain terms, only candidates born between 01 January 2002 and 01 January 2009 (both dates inclusive) are eligible. There is no age relaxation for any community**, so candidates must double‑check their date of birth before proceeding with the application.
Sports performance is the backbone of this recruitment. The expectations become more stringent as the pay level increases.
Pay Level 5 / 4 – Must have represented the country in the Olympic Games, or secured at least a 3rd position in a World Cup, World Championship, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or Youth Olympics (as applicable).
Pay Level 3 / 2 – Must have represented India in a World Cup, World Championship, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or Youth Olympics, or secured at least a 3rd position in Commonwealth/Asian Championships, National Games, or Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships.
Pay Level 1 – Must have represented the country in Commonwealth/Asian Championships, SAF Games, World University Games, or secured at least a 3rd position in the Federation Cup or Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships.
All championships must be conducted under recognised International/National/State sports federations and must be approved by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB). Only sports performances on or after 01 April 2024 will be considered.
The pay for the selected candidates is determined by the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. The higher the level obtained through sports performance, the higher the initial remuneration.
Level 5: ₹29,200 per month
Level 4: ₹25,500 per month
Level 3: ₹21,700 per month
Level 2: ₹19,900 per month
Level 1: ₹18,000 per month
On appointment, candidates receive the minimum pay of their level plus DA, HRA, and other railway allowances admissible at that time. During training periods, a stipend is provided as per applicable norms.
There is **no written examination** for the RRC CR Sports Quota 2026. The entire selection is a blend of document verification, a sports trial, and a medical examination.
All eligible candidates are summoned for Document Verification (DV) and a Sports Trial.
During the trial, candidates are evaluated on game skill, physical fitness, and the coach’s observations.
Only FIT candidates those scoring 25 or more out of 40 in the trial proceed to the next stage.
Each candidate is assessed out of 100 marks across three components:
Recognised Sports Achievements – 50 marks
Game Skill, Fitness & Coach’s Observation – 40 marks
Educational Qualification – 10 marks
Minimum qualifying marks for each pay level:
Pay Level 5 / 4 – 70 marks
Pay Level 3 / 2 – 65 marks
Pay Level 1 – 60 marks
The final list is prepared purely on merit. In case of a tie, the younger candidate is given preference.
Selected candidates must undergo a Medical Fitness Test as per the standards applicable to the allotted post. Appointment is also subject to the final verification of educational certificates, community certificates, and character/ antecedents verification.
