The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, have issued the Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 02/2026 for recruitment to 6,557 Technician posts. This drive covers Technician Grade‑I Signal (323 posts) and 24 categories of Technician Grade‑III (6,234 posts) across various Zonal Railways and Production Units throughout India.

Candidates must meet the educational, age, and medical requirements prescribed for the post they intend to apply for. The eligibility conditions are outlined in Annexures A through VII of the CEN.
Technician Grade‑I Signal:
B.Sc. in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology or Instrumentation
Three‑year Diploma in Engineering in any of the above streams
Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) in the relevant streams
Technician Grade‑III (most categories):
Matriculation/SSLC + ITI from NCVT/SCVT in the relevant trade (e.g., Fitter, Welder, Electrician, Machinist, Carpenter, Blacksmith, etc.)
OR Matriculation/SSLC + Completed Apprenticeship Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade

The age limit is relaxed for reserved category candidates as per government rules:
SC/ST: +5 years upper age limit
OBC‑NCL: +3 years
PwBD: +10 years (UR/EWS), +13 years (OBC‑NCL), +15 years (SC/ST)
Ex‑servicemen: Age‑relaxation equal to years of service plus 3/6/8 years depending on category (UR/EWS, OBC‑NCL, SC/ST) after deducting service length from actual age.
Applicants must meet the medical standard prescribed for the specific post, which can be A3, B1, B2 or C1 as indicated in the vacancy table.

The recruitment is conducted through a **three‑stage merit‑based process**:
Computer Based Test (CBT): 90‑minute single shift, 100 questions, negative marking of 1/3rd mark per wrong answer. Qualifying marks are 40% for UR/EWS, 30% for OBC‑NCL/SC, and 25% for ST.
Document Verification (DV): Shortlisting is done at a 1:1 ratio against vacancies based on CBT performance on an RRB‑wise basis. Original certificates must be produced; no extra time is provided for missing certificates.
Medical Examination (ME): Conducted by Railway Medical Authorities as per the medical standard (A3, B1, B2 or C1) required for the specific post.
CBT dates will be announced separately on the official RRB websites shortly after the closing of applications.
Following is a step‑by‑step guide to ensure a smooth and error‑free submission:
Visit the official RRB portal or the centralised website at rrb.indianrailways.gov.in.
Click on “Create an Account”. Fill in personal details exactly as they appear on your Matriculation certificate – name, father’s name, mother’s name, and date of birth.
Use DigiLocker or Aadhaar for identity verification to expedite later verification steps.
Log in with the created credentials and select your preferred RRB zone and the pay level (5 for Grade‑I Signal, 2 for Grade‑III). Remember to choose only one RRB per pay level – multiple selections lead to rejection of all applications.
Enter your order of preference for the posts under the chosen RRB and pay level.
Upload a live photograph captured through a webcam or mobile camera at the time of registration. Pre‑printed or scanned photos are not accepted.
Upload signature in JPG/JPEG format, size 30–49 KB, showing cursive handwriting with black ink. Block letters cause rejection. use our free photo and signature sizer tool
Pay the application fee online using net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI.
Review all entered data for accuracy, especially name, DOB, and chosen RRB/pay level.
Submit the application and retain a printed copy or screenshot of the registration number for future reference.
Candidates who have already created an account for previous RRB notifications can use those login details but must start a fresh application for CEN 02/2026.
Shortlisted candidates must present the original certificates along with two sets of self‑attested photocopies at the Document Verification stage. The mandatory documents include:
Matriculation/10th standard passing certificate (proof of date of birth)
Educational qualification certificates (B.Sc., Diploma, Degree, etc.)
ITI/Apprenticeship certificates
Caste/Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC‑NCL/EWS) in the prescribed Annexure format
Valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, passport, etc.)
No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the current employer if the candidate is already in government service
Incorrect personal details in the account creation – these cannot be changed later.
Applying to multiple RRBs for the same pay level; this results in rejection and debarment.
Uploading a pre‑existing or printed photograph – only live‑captured photos are accepted.
Providing signature in capital or block letters; it must be cursive in black ink.
Missing the fee payment deadline (31 July 2026). Submission of the form without fee leads to automatic rejection.
Ignoring the modification window (01 – 10 August 2026). Errors (other than account details) can be corrected within this period by paying ₹250 per modification.
Once selected, candidates will be placed according to the pay level specified for their post:
